This life was about to move on: a tale of first time grandparenting

Created by Verity in Age: Baby & Toddler, Age: On the way, Being a Granny-carer

It wasn’t that she had grown tired of where she was or even bored with her comfortable existence – but that a deeper life force was moving her on. Her knowledge and awareness of who she was, was complete. She possessed a profound understanding of her being. She was intimate with the physical workings of her body, her every movement interconnected by an effortless flowing motion. She was oblivious to thought – she had no need for thought – she was, she existed and that was all that mattered.

Yet deeper, within her soul, a time of change, great monumental change was steering its course.

She was tied to a destiny of which she had no control. She did not resist. She allowed new emotions to engulf her entire self. She embraced them with her whole body. She rejoiced in them, neither recognising nor accepting them. It was enough that they were there. Her ancient wisdom told her that this was right. She trusted. Her thumb instinctively found its way to her lips as she sucked the unconscious forces into her life blood.

The event drew nearer.

Her cocoon began to expand.

Grandmother with grandchildShe now became aware that another being was linked to her very existence . She had always known this but the very closeness of this bond had caused her never to question nor to explore. At this same time a rush of delectable conscious thoughts flooded her agile mind. She experienced the many emotions which earlier had gently slipped into her as a creation of life.

She felt her heart quicken. She would draw on these emotions. Her fate was not yet clear but she sensed that she was on a precipice and that her inner strengths would come to the fore. Her implicit knowledge of who she was told her that she had the strength and courage to face her destiny. She knew also that she was not alone. Together time stood still and curiously moved on at a great pace. Her destiny had been approaching and was now here. She had not experienced these new sensations before and her blind anticipation sent waves of tremulous excitement coursing through her body. The clarity of who and what she was, becoming clearer as precious seconds passed by.

A violent storm of turbulence in her life had been gathering and was increasing in momentum causing changes in her environment. She began moving away from the warmth and security of her mothers womb, travelling with speed away from her known universe. She wanted to remain with what she knew, with what she knew her very existence depended on. She was torn between an undeniable desire to continue with this journey and the safety of what had been before – of what had always been. There was no choice. She joined, with her mother, engaging in the battle of birth.

As she emerged from the protection of her mothers body – she felt fear. She was almost physically spent and the comforting darkness she had always known had been exchanged for a searing white light which brought pain to her eyes. She screwed her eyes up tightly, blocking out the light. She realised she could no longer feel or taste her mother. Confusion. She did not understand. Suddenly she experienced great relief. She heard a loud noise welling up from deep within her and felt a stream of air pass through her mouth and deep into her chest. She was crying. She cried all the more – loudly – announcing to the world that she had arrived. She felt strong protective hands against her tiny body as she was placed in the arms of her mother. She knew it was her mother – she could smell her warmth and love.
