Times have changed and modern family life often means families are spread out across the country and long-distance trips are a fact of life for more and more of us. Travelling by train is a great way to visit friends and family and perfect for children who get restless during car trips. But taking the greener option by travelling by train could be a whole lot more expensive in future, thanks to fare rises recently set out by the Government.
By how much will my fare increase?
follow link An initial rise of 1% above inflation will take effect from January 2011 (this translates to up to £500 more for a season ticket in some places!), and a further 3% above inflation rise is planned for January 2012. With your help we want to make sure these fare increases never happen.

These tickets are set to rise an astronomical 31% over the next four years. Unregulated fares, which include day returns and tickets for Anytime travel, are set by individual train operators and can rise at their discretion.
Stand up for passengers
go site All this means bad news for train travel as people could be priced off the railways. We already pay much more for our train tickets than the rest of Europe and in future, unless you are able book in advance and travel off peak, you’re likely to have to pay even more.
watch Sustainable transport group, Campaign for Better Transport, believes that train travel should be affordable for everyone and are launching a campaign to make the Government think again about train fares. We would really like to hear from people about how they will be affected by rail fair increases.
There’s still time to stop the worst of the fare rises. Our new campaign, Fair Fares Now, will launch in January. Get updates by signing up to fight these cuts or volunteer to help spread the word about the campaign. Help us show politicians how important affordable rail travel is to your family.
