Technology: Making the most of digital photos

By Verity Gill & Truprint.co.uk

We all love photographs, but how can we make the best of recent major developments in the area. Before digitalisation, you could point the camera, look through the viewfinder, press the button, finish the film, go to the pharmacist and hey presto 3 days later you had your prints. Well, perhaps it wasn't simple, but at least it was familiar!

So what now, what's changed? Well, believe it or not, things have got a lot easier, but as with everything new they can seem a little daunting. We have got together with photography experts, Truprint, to make things clearer so that you will see that digital photography has not just changed things, but improved things.

For example, you no longer have to waste time waiting for your photos and you no longer have to waste money printing photos that don't come out that well (you just delete them before you print!)

If you are thinking of buying a digital camera take a look at our useful links section and consider getting a compact model so that you can fit it in your handbag ready for use at all times!! Or have a look at our shopping section for some really easy to use retailer sites.

Firstly, we thought we would give you some advice on how to take the best photographs, so Truprint have put together 4 steps to the perfect shot. Follow these and you'll have great pictures that'll make you smile again and again.

  1. Step 1 - Get a grip
A firm grip on your camera will ensure sharper pictures. Stay steady, tuck in your elbows, keep your feet slightly apart, and make sure your fingers aren't over the lens.
  2. Step 2 - Compose yourself
Don't just point and shoot - assess the scene and find the best bits. Try putting your subject to one side, rather than bang in the middle, as this will add impact.
  3. Step 3 - Another point of view
Too many pictures of pets and children are taken from above. Go down to their level to capture them looking more natural. Then get in close.
  4. Step 4 - Light it or not
Natural light almost always looks better than flash light. Direct your subjects next to a window and ask them to look towards it or take them outside. If using a flash, remember, it will only work to a distance of about 4-5m away.

So that is the perfect shot sorted, but what do you do once you have taken the photographs? Well - as you will see, this is the easy part, as shown below in Truprint's 3 easy steps to digital prints:

  1. Step 1 - Register at www.truprint.co.uk
Ensure that you choose an email address and password that you will remember. If you have already registered, then sign in using your registered email address and password. And don't worry, there are instructions to follow if you have forgotten your password.

  2. Step 2 - Upload your images from your PC/Mac, Mobile Phone or email account.
