Finding out that Theo needed surgery was awful, finding out that we had to move him to a different hospital for that surgery was even worse. Luckily for us The Children’s Air Ambulance was able to fly Theo between hospitals saving more than an hour than travelling by land. The Children’s Air Ambulance now needs support to make sure that it can keep providing this fantastic service and go on to help many more families just like mine so please support them today.

Our total flight time was only 15 minutes. As we flew along, we could see congested roads and the difficulty a land ambulance would face especially if it needed to travel in rush hour traffic. It’s cases like this where every minute can, and does, count. Dr Stephen Hancock, Lead Consultant for Embrace in charge of Theo’s care on board said: “Embrace were delighted to work with The Children’s Air Ambulance on their first ever transfer.”

Why The Children’s Air Ambulance need your help

http://theiu.org/?alisa=%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%AA%D9%8A%D8%AC%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%B3&16e=ff Since Baby Theo 1st transfer we have moved 13 critically ill babies and demand for this new service is high! They receive no Government or Lottery Funding, so your support really does matter.

TCAA with young supporters1Around 5,800 critically ill children every year require transportation from and between paediatric intensive care units. When a child is suffering from a serious illness, the specialist life-saving treatment they need can sometimes be hundreds of miles away. Journeys by land can take a considerable time, as well as being uncomfortable and distressing for the child, and often medically challenging.

Shelley Riphagen, an intensive care consultant at the Evelina Children’s Hospital in Central London, said: “A well organised, coordinated, comprehensive inter-hospital air ¬ambulance service for critically ill children in the UK is long overdue. We are way behind most other major Western countries in this field.”

The emergency service needs £134,000 per month to keep their helicopter in the air and help save many more babies like Theo.
