Default Meditation.

Now I don't want any of you to go into hysterical laughter, but I am trying to learn to meditate. have read the book and everything.
Trouble is, well one of them, it appears there are lots of different ways to meditate.
Breathing, well I thought that quite obvious really, Visualisation, Mantras to name but a few.
Having finished the book, I can't remember in which order you are supposed to do things, breath, sit down, stand up, pull a string from your tummy to the top of your head, chant, go for a walk through a forest with a babbling brook, light a candle, put on music and think of an oak leaf.
If this is supposed to relax me, it isn't.
I am supposed to stop my mind from flitting about and apparently if I tell myself off enough, it won't.
Well I can tell you, I am flitting all over the place!
Rethink, have a glass of wine?

Oh dear Jane it does not seem to be having the required effect does it???? Maybe you would be better joining a class although the truth is when I joined a class I got chucked out because I kept giggling "inappropriately" - well it wasn't just me, it was my friend as well.

I did learn a sort of meditation when I used to have serious panic attacks but that was a long time ago........... Yep Jane glass of wine is in order I say...........

I don't think there's really any "right" or "wrong" way, Jane! When I joined a Budhhist meditation group a few years ago we concentraced on the breath, but I was never very drawn to that way of doing it, I have found a mantra to be the best for me. You can sit in a chair, or on the floor or the bed, and you don't have to have your hands in a certain position.

Experiment and see what feels best for you - good luck!

Default compare notes!!

I too have book on meditation it is not that straighforward is it?/ Seems you have to focus on something ie your breathing, an object or a mantra, but not sure what works best or even if I could do it at all!!

Don`t give up Jane!!

early easter thought!!!

I belonged to a yoga class for over ten years and although I originally went for the exercise to keep supple I was apprehensive at first to really get into the relaxation/meditation at the end of the evening but loved it. We used to lie on our mats on the floor and after meditation, usually to music and the teachers voice you felt as if you were lying on a feather mattress.

We also had those guided meditations after yoga, and very relaxing it was too! Not the same as doing it yourself, though...
