Ridiculous selling bras for 5 year olds but I can see the point of bikinis, little girls want to dress(or undress) like mummy even if they haven't got anything to cover up yet, makes them feel grown up.,,Not that I have experience of girls having only had a son and a grandson but it makes sense.

My periods started just before I was 10, it was quite a shock to both me and my parents (an understatement). I started sprouting in the bust area when I was very young and before there was underwear for my age in those days. I always wonder if that is why I am now rather more ample than I would like in that department. I remember being mortified that I had "buds" and my Daddy got special permission for me not to get changed for PE with everyone else, so embarrassing............

Going back to besotted nanny's original post (the thread seems to have developed - ahem!! - in other directions! ) I cannot understand why any mother would want her 5 year old to look like a t***. What are they thinking about! Do they think their little girls look sweet, or cute, or, God forbid, sexy! Can they be under so much pressure from daughters who watch far too much inappropriate telly?

I can understand a child having an interest in what they wear, but surely a firm "no, you're not having that until you're at least 26" in the shop would work.
