I will ask OH later which mattress we got Tinker (we looked at so many) I seem to think it is something to do with miracoil. It is part foam as we both have those hot flushes going on still and are rarely cold at night! We have a king size but the make the mattress in all sizes. I will get back to you. It is extremly comfy and had made lots of difference

I've come to this post a bit late. We have a memory foam mattress, which is bliss. It has two sides, one warmer than the other, so we just turn it over in summer. I like a firm mattress and OH likes a soft one, but this suits both of us. Ironing bedlinen? Never! I just hang things up very carefully so they dry uncreased. We still have sheets and blankets - both find duvets far too hot, even in winter, whatever the tog rating. Pillows - always put a white pillowcase under the coloured one. My dilemma is how many pillows to have - 2 and I get a stiff neck, 1 and I feel as if I've got my head on a brick! Haven't slept well for some years - first, all the worries we've had over the last 20 years, then the aches and pains, and now I also suffer badly from heartburn at night. Trouble is, because of my knees, the only comfortable position is lying flat on my back, which brings on the heartburn. I'm on medication, we've raised the head of the bed, I never eat later than 4 hours before going to bed, but still lie awake gurgling. The only thing that really stops it is a Boots Travelcalm tablet - but I can't take one of those every night. We go to bed around midnight and I'm usually awake until around 1am, by which time my knees are hurting as well because I've been lying in the same position for too long. I hate getting older.

If you are really looking for a luxury bed Tinker, take a look at Jensen beds. They have a mattress topper over a sprung base. They are upholstered beds though, not sure is they would fit what sounds like your lovely hand built frame. We looked at them because OH who has heart problems was having difficulty with his breathing at night. You can have separate mattresses both fully adjustable top and bottom. BUT you need a big wallet.
