Jane - scary statistics indeed - and very, very sad.

It never occurs to me to give any of the GC sweets. We never have sweets or fizzy drink in the house - neither OH nor I like them and neither do our own sons. Chocolate is an occasional treat, but never a reward. We have to be careful with crisps and other nibbles because of GS1's gluten- and dairy-free diet, so plain crisps only, or vegetable crisps (yummy!). None of the GCs ever ask me for sweets, but of course they get lots of other treats like comics, 'pocket money' toys etc.

I keep seasonal easy-to-eat fruit in and they love that.

Jess got a little party bag from a friend at playschool recently. It contained a toy and a packet of sweeties - she didn't know what they were, and didn't realise you could eat them!

we never give jack sweets, At twenty one months he is far too young but his other grandoarents constantly give him cake, sweets ,cookies and diluted squash. he actually likes a bit of carrot or cucumber so at the moment sweets really not neccessary.
