Default Christmas Present delivered!

The kids and I gave OH a Concorde Experience for Christmas, and today he redeemed it! He's mad about aircraft, particularly Concorde and when they were withdrawn from service it was a sad day for him. We'd planned to go on a trip on it when he retired!

The Brooklands Museum (near Weybridge in Surrey) has a Concorde simulator, and you can book a 'flight' with an ex-Concorde pilot. OH absolutely loved it! He took off from Heathrow, did a large circuit, then, naughty chap, flew under Tower Bridge! He managed to 'land' safely, too!

The reason for posting this is to say, you're never too old to be a big kid!

Jean - it's held at Brooklands Race Track near Weybridge, Surrey. It's the only working Concorde simulator in the world and was used to train British Concorde pilots. There is an actual Concorde there as well which you can go on and have a guided tour round. It's run mainly by volunteers, including ex-Concorde pilots. The link

Brooklands Concorde - Further Information

It's a fantastic present for anyone who's always wanted to fly. My OH has a private pilot's licence but the other people in his group had never been at the controls of any sort of plane before - and they all loved it. A flight simulator is just like the real thing - only you can walk away from any accidents!

Pilates - I have to confess - DS1 came up with the idea when he saw it advertised when he took his sons to the Mercedes-Benz world which is on the same site.

tizzy - that's such a shame. I would have loved to fly on it too.

Well ladies I have to confess that I have flown Concorde from London to New York and it was fantastic! The crew got it into their head that OH was something to do with aviation ( which he wasn't, just flew an awful lot) and he got invited up on to the flight deck! Such a shame that it was taken out of service.

I live right by Heathrow and watched her come home, it was quite an emotional experience. There is still one at Heathrow although she has been stripped bare inside. They move her around so sometimes you can see her from the Great South West Road around Hatton Cross area.

GH unfortunately these days no-one except crew are allowed on the flight deck. Husband is part time cabin crew (his normal job is ground crew and trainer), he does about 6 trips a year (long haul) and often sits in the cock pit on take off and landing. Says it is a fantastic experience. Personally I need a strong hand to hold on take off and landing and I think being in the cockpit sounds exciting but I would probably get the collywobbles!!!!!
