Default The Book Circle - Wed, 16th July 7 pm - 8 pm

The Book Club has been trundling along for a while, and quite a few people have expressed an interest in continuing it. Everyone is welcome - hence the new name - Book Circle, and the more the merrier.

Ragdoll has nominated a book for discussion during the third week in July (date to be confirmed):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Bolter-S.../dp/1844084809

You can of course also order this via your local library.

So ladies, get the sun lounger out, relax with your favourite drink and enjoy what looks like a very interesting read.

Thank you RD for the suggestion.

Looking forward to this
I have David Copperfield to finish, and have a few new books downloaded on my Kindle for my holiday. After that, I will get down to reading the book circle choice!

Just followed the Amazon link. You're able to view some pages a 'look inside' option, which I did. I'll not be buying the book but look forward to the next book choice later in the year.

Just downloaded it on Kindle. This intrigues me on a number of levels. Firstly, the story of a woman with many talents who only saw relationships with men as 'career option' because of the time and class into which she was born. Secondly, as an account of a totally past world just under a century ago, and finally because part of it refers to East Africa, where I worked for some years. The White Mischief was still in evidence even in the late 60s and early 70s. It wasn't attractive but it was fascinating - like looking at an old film or historical novel and only half believing what you observe.

Will check it out in library and se if they've got it in stock. If not I'll put in a request. Out of my comfort zone, but willing to give it a go!

Can I add one here?

Katherine by Anya Seton

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katherine_(novel)

Very much a favourite novel of mine, an historical love story beautifully written. It is especially interesting for me as Katherine Swynford (and her daughter, Joan Beaufort) are buried at Lincoln Cathedral.

There are so many descendants from Katherine living today (or died and were famous) such as Princess Diana. George W Bush is a descendant, and apparently I heard it told some time ago Britney Spears Katherine's DNA has travelled far and wide!
