When I watch these reality birth programmes I can't help thinking how primitive it all looks, in this day and age, even when things go smoothly, not to mention the poor women who have difficult birth, luckily I had a caesarian! I know it's a natural event but I would like to see men going through that, in fact none of us would be here I'm sure!

hehehe - I can remember visiting the maternity hospital where DS1 was to be born in a few weeks. As our little group of first-time mums peered in through the nursery windows at all the little bundles wrapped in pink and blue someone commented on how tiny they were. All I could think was - you're joking, they're HUGE!!!!

In my experience it was just as painful giving birth to a smaller baby!
My babies were 6 lb 6oz, 7lb 7oz, then 9 pounds (no one believes youngest DD was a 9 pound baby. She is a size 8, 5'1" now!) The only thing which made the 3rd birth any worse was the length of the 2nd stage, which ended with a forceps delivery. I found baby one, the smallest, a very painful labour!
I'm probably just a wimp, though )

Talking

On the subject of baby size, and maternal 'blindness' ..

When I had my first daughter, at 6lb 6 oz, all the other babies on the ward were bigger. I thought them all, especially the 9 pound baby boy, to be huge monsters, not like my tiny darling

When daughter 2 arrived she was average sized, so not much different to the other babies

When my 3rd daughter arrived, I was in 4 bedded room. 2 of the other babies were around the 7 pound mark, one little girl was just under 6 pounds. Of course to my eyes, they were weedy little babies, not full fleshed and adorable like my angel
