Default Bargain books

Got a bargain in The Works today. They were selling assorted paperbacks some at 99p but mostly 49p each but ,even better, it was buy one,get one free!! I got quite a variety,a bit of pot luck but at four for £1.48 I can't go wrong-bound to like some (hopefully all) of them.Cheaper even than charity shops. By the way I think some of these charity shops charge far too much for books.Better to sell them cheaper and have a quicker turnover I would have thought.

I agree, and it's not just books. Everything seems so much dearer now in charity shops - sometimes quite near the original price!

It's a bookshop. They sell stationery, games and suchlike too. I've picked up some wonderful bargains there, often they sell off hardbacks just before the paperback version is issued. They do some super children's books too, but you have to forage, there's a lot of rubbish stuff as well.

I also noticed that charity shops charge more for books than you can buy them at The Works. However the cheapest (free) place for books is the Library - eldest daughter works in one so I have to give them a plug

Jeant - I agree about the library. My DIL gets lots fantastic little books for 18-month old GD. Jess loves going and 'choosing' them, and if necessary they can be renewed online. Long live libraries, I say!

Agree totally about libraries. Our local one is small so not much choice.I know books can be ordered and renewed but I always feel under pressure to read them and get them back for others who might be waiting.
GC love going to library. Both great readers-always have been and love books GS especially. He is well ahead of his expected reading age and virtually taught himself to read.Once when DD went with him on a trip with Nursery the other Mums were well impressed when F read out the signs such as "Please keep off the grass". Mind you he used to drive us bonkers by always asking what the words were on the side of lorries etc.Certainly paid off though especially as boys are sometimes quite slow to catch on compared to girls.O.K boast over!!

Sorry Tizzy didn't explain "The Works". Seems to be a branch every where I go so thought everyone was au fait with them

Just realised I have already posted on here, sorry, getting confused as to whether this Topic is for our books or our GC's books!

Have you noticed how cheap books are nowadays? I like paperbacks as they don't take up so much space as the hardbacks, and years ago you couldn't buy them for less than £7.99 minimum, now you can get two good quality recent titles for that in Sainsburys and in other supermarkets they are even cheaper, some just £1! Is it because people buy fewer books now with the internet and the kindle?
