The decision on whether to let yourself go grey or to keep on paying (huge!) bills in the hairdresser is a tough one. Which path have you chosen (for now)?

I have mid-dark brown hair. Until I was 38 I did nothing as I had no grey, and I like my hair colour
I started to use these wash in wash out in 3 washes sachets to hide those first greys. Then for several years I hennaed it (mixing brown and red henna, from Lush) The results were wonderful, but I had to sit around in cling film for many hours once a month, so after a while I gave in to the chemicals! I use semi permanent, and just colour it myself every 4-6weeks I am 57 and quite young looking for my age, so not really ready to go grey. After few years I would like to go grey, as I think it is a very nice look, if the hair is well cared for. Unfortunately though I have my Dad's type of hair which even when he died at 86 was dark, with grey in it. Not a good look for woman! Mums is all white, and if mine was like hers I would be forgoing the dye soon

I'm lucky in that my hair is light brown and I only have a couple of streaks of grey at the temples, which are mostly hidden by the rest of my hair and my fringe. I've used various colourants over the years but don't bother now because I hate that tide-mark look when it's growing out. I'm hoping my hair colour will sort of "fade" and blend in with the grey eventually!

I am boringly mousey, with the odd 'sparkle' as my hairdressers calls it.it is highlighted, at least it was its growing out, soooo expensive.
I will go grey disgracefully, my mums hair was silver, so hoping mine will to. Jane. |

I am appallingly vain - can't bear a grey or white hair appearing anywhere! And since the age of 18 I've been having my hair bleached and tinted blonde, so still having it professionally done every 6 weeks, 50 years later. I was fairhaired as a child, but in my late teens it started darkening and I didn't like it! I love being blonde. The regrowth around my hairline is pure white these days, so tones in. I reckon I'll still be having my hair blonded when I'm 80!

I always said I would never, never, perm or put any colour in my hair and would let it go grey naturally. But then two and a half years ago when son got married I came under huge pressure from DD and DiL to have the grey bits coloured. So I did. And it does look a lot better. My plan however, as my hair ,is, or was, dark brown, is to go up a shade every time I have it done so that eventually the colour and the grey merge.
What I find a little problematic is that the colour palette that suited me with dark brown hair and a skin that tanned by just peeping at the sun, now looks wrong as my hair and skin are much lighter. It takes a bit of getting used to. In my heart of hearts I think it's a bit sad to be vain at 66! That's me I'm talking about, no one else! Last edited by Enid; 10-02-2012 at 11:07 AM. |

And why not, OFG? My ex MIL dyed her hair dark brown (she was always dark) right to her very last days. And I hardly ever saw her without full makeup!

I was and mostly still am a redhead. People don't believe I do not colour my hair. It is getting to the stage when the grey is outnumbering the red but not bad for 73.

I will never ever let my hair go totally grey, Im with OFG Im vain to and have my hair coloured every 4 weeks. Think grey would age me terribly, some people it really suits though. DD's M.I.L is only 2 years older than me and steel grey, but it suits her very well.
