Had a splendid day to-day. Coach trip with OH and Art Gallery club members to Cardiff, visiting the National Museum of Wales. Masses to see, but concentrated mainly on the paintings, especially the Impressionists, who are my particular favourites. Two very informative talks by Museum volunteers, then wandered round at will. Nice lunch in their restaurant then back in the coach and on to visit the extraordinary Castell Coch nearby - looks medieval but is actually Victorian, despite the circular towers, and the interior decor is amazingly over the top - fascinating to see, but guaranteed to give you a headache if you had to live with it. Tea in the cafe then back to Bath by 5pm having had a really interesting day.

I think I told you ladies about the chinese lady who works with me and how her baby will be going back to China to be reared by her aunts and grandmother. Tina will continue to work at my place, but will do day college and study accountancy. To give her her due she is a very hard working and studious person. Always wanting to better herself and now for her Daughters future. I cannot imagine parting with one of mine, and Im sure you ladies cant either. But all of us at work have to respect her decision, and have all agreed to not stress how hard it is going to be for her. I think although shes cool about it,it will hit her like a ton of bricks. But I admire her desire to study and achieve a good future for her Daughter when they are re united in a few years. I know she has skype etc,but not the same. Anyway I went to visit with 2 other colleagues for 1/2 hour this evening, the baby is truly beautiful, and so alert. Apparently she is a very good baby and seldom cries. I have posted some pics, to me she is a mini version of her Mummy, but we dont know who Daddy is as he vanished off the scene  Tina takes babe to China in August and returns to work September. It must take ggreat courage I think, I could already see the bond she has developed with Victoria.

A third of children in England cannot swim by the time they leave primary school, according to research from the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
The research suggests many non-swimmers have never had a school swimming lesson despite its being part of the national curriculum for seven-to-11-year-olds.

Hi it's Rhys' third birthday today, and I'm NOT seeing him :(. I know I see him all the time. Mummy and Daddy have taken the day off work to take him out, so I hope they have a lovely time.
They're coming for tea tomorrow night so I'll see him again then. Good job I'm free today, I hadn't got him a present, but I've been to town and bought him a lawnmower, as they are having their back garden done so Rhys can actually play safely, and have some grass. Also "Fridge Phonics" it's a toy that's magnetic, and when you put each letter in it , it gives the sound. I hope the Speech Therapist doesn't mind.
Can't wait for tomorrow now.

This week the number of people using Twitter in the UK hit 10 million. There are now a million more Twitter users than the combined total of people who buy daily national newspapers.

Twitter now has 10m users in UK | Technology | The Guardian

So, what does this news mean?

For some it means that Twitter has helped shift the balance of media power from press barons to the people. If you are a celebrity this is good news as it gives you a direct voice to the people or as John Prescott puts it ‘It's given me a voice and a connection to millions of people that the distorted prism of the mainstream media denied’.

For others it means that Twitter is no longer a niche tool, used primarily by geeks and self-promoters. It means that, love it or hate it, Twitter is here to stay.

Grannynet comment: We at Grannynet thought it was about time we had a look at what Twitter is all about. If you would like to know more, read our article...What is Twitter?

Tomorrow - Thursday 17th, I am at our head office in Wolverhampton to pitch at a Dragon's Den for a charity we work with at a large regen project. I have never seen Dragon's Den so I don't have a clue what I am doing. The person who was leading pulled out yesterday and me and a young chappie are there tomorrow taking a flyer..........

I have worked most of the day on this and, to be honest, I need to do other things. Cross with the bloke who has let us down. Cross that I have to drive to Wolves for an hour meeting (but I suppose it will be worth it if we win money for the charity). Cross because my favourite jacket has a big stain on the front (blue one ENID!) and I wanted to wear it tomorrow - well just cross really.

The Managing Directors of the the four main companies for our group at going to be the Dragons. Wish me luck!! xx

Given their well-noted reluctance to talk to the media, it is clear that the subject of their grandmother is one so close to their hearts that they made an exception.

In a light-hearted moment, Prince William alludes to a moment of youthful misbehaviour. 'As I learned from growing up, you don't mess with your grandmother,' Prince William confessed.

We are always looking for things to do with our teenage grandchildren. With technology and computers it takes a long while to get them out of their own homes! So I made up a personal invitations with pictures and words, inviting them to a 'Granny Party'. Fortunately I have 6 Girl grandchildren here in the UK, the other 6 are in South Africa and the USA. So we are having a PJ party, with games, like 'Who's line is it anyway' Twister, cards etc. But have also combined this with a fondue. We are having it in July when the summer holidays are up, so they can sleep over. I am pretty sure we wont get to bed until early hours of the morning!
They already are discussing this amongst themselves with excitment, and I think if all goes well, I will do this maybe every second month.
I just thought I would share this. When it is over, I would like to come back to you and give feedback. I am excited too.:)

hi all

dont know where to post this question, but hoping here will do....

you may have read my earlier post about my 21yr old DD splitting with her BF he was sending explicit pictures and sex messages to other girls, one of them got in touch with my DD to tell her then she found out a lot more, lots of tears but she has ended the relationship, thank goodness i was so relieved....

well she had getting money off us for her 21st and booked a holiday with her BF, she obviously is not going with him, they paid £1200, now she is desperate for this holiday more than ever, so contacted the travel agent, to cancel complete holiday she will loose £120 deposits or to change name it is £35...so she asked a few of her friends to go instead of her BF and there is 1 who can go but cant afford the holiday, she too has split up with her BF after he got another girl pregnant !!!!

so now my DD's dilemma is does she cancel the holiday take out the money they have lost, he also owes her £100 for a passport. or get her friend to pay the £35 for the name change and then she can still have her holiday, he will get nothing, The both paid £600 each...

we are divided with advise to give her, i said if she feels she can go with a friend on the same holiday as her BF and be happy, then go for it, she has done nothing wrong, but then in the other hand give him his money and tell him where to go, but that means she wont have the holiday she is desperate for....

my OH is saying go on the holiday, my sis is saying the same, its his fault...but in the back of my mind is this right...it was supposed to be special her 21st gift we struggled to pay for, for her...she keeps asking "mum what will i do", but quite honestly i dont know....

what do you think youse are a wise bunch and i respect all your replies.....thank you

o gosh was very nervous visitting new dentist yesterday, my lovely one sadly left the practice. I do not care for new lady that much but expect my other dentis is very hard act to follow.

The small piece of tooth I lost apparently nothing she can do and admittedly is not bothering me.

Other area which is twinging I have lost some of white filling, but she cannot re do it until I have seen Hygenist, apparently as my gums are inflamed.

O dear saw Hygienist today (got cancellation) £45 for half hour but she was lovely lady and very helpful, also cleaned teeth and gums more thoroughly than have been done for years, she gave me lot helpful advice also reference correct way to use electric toothbrush etc.

Had bit of run in with receceptionist as they charged me £17 for emergency appt whenI pointed out it was not as have waited 2 weeks and was told I would have treatment, I still had to pay for hygenist and my white filling will be £100 plu s:eek

In end receptionist was helpful but really do not like the set up there, she asked am I going to pay for the treatment before hand as I did not pay yesterday!! in a loud voice also. Thankfully I am capable of standing my ground, but cannot say was good experience. The lovely lady hygenist made up for it tho!! I pointed out have had niggly toothace for month now and would have liked it dealt with before we go away beg June and she gave me appt for 29th May and will check wit h dentist as she said I have to wait month after seeing hygenist!!

Think I am quite easy to fall out with at moment"!! put it down to Rosie op and new bathroom must get a grip!!:)

Some of you may remember mentioning my friend who I met at college who sadly has drink problem.

I supported herthrough the last big meeting with Social services etc. Sadly things have not got better and the social work took her little boy away yesterday. He is allowed to stay with his grand dad temporarily but he is 82 so do not think will be permanent.

My friend was drunk when social worker visited and she has had lots warnings. I find it very hard as have tried to help but feel rather helpless now.

I am fond of her little boy too, but just do not think there is anything I can do. So sad.:o

This probably sounds a bit pathetic but I woke up yesterday morning with a rather large insect bite on my inner left ankle. It prob. sounds a bit odd but I do like to put my feet outside of the duvet ergo giving insects the golden opportunity to nip me! This one however has taken on a life of of its own. My ankle is swollen, it was itchy but Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream sorted that out for now, but it is swollen, red and painful even outside of the red areas. I put a plaster on it today as my trousers were rubbing against it and irritating it more but to be honest it didn't help much.

I am thinking if it is still painful tomorrow when I am driving home from work I should go to the local walk in centre. I don't really want to. Do you think I sound a bit a bit of a hypochondriac? Should I just bung some Grandma's magic cream (Germolene) on and hope for the best?

Anne can you ask your lovely husband please - I know he is off duty now but a woman in need and all that........:o

Home today with a migraine, or at least that what I think it is, I don't suffer from migraine or even headaches, but I've had this one sided headache since yesterday, painkillers don't seem to make much difference and this morning I was also feeling a bit sick and wobbly. Bad headaches worry me as I always think of potential strokes, I guess we need to be aware being in that vulnerable age group. So I'll take it easy couldn't stand the hussle and bussle of the office today...I'm sure you Netters will keep me company! :)

Well Rhys seems to have grown up a bit more over this weekend. He's communicating a bit better with more detail. His Mummy told me he was very excited about going with Grandma for our hair cuts, that he asked for a bath and hair wash!
We had to dash in through a heavy downpour, that I didn't bother with the pushchair. But he sat in the chair on his own for the first time and sat really still. He sat as good as gold watching me too.
I put his photo in my pics for you to see.

Yesterday our local Country Park had a memorial flower planting event for parents who have lost babies, still born ,or cot deaths etc
Our Son DIL and Oliver went to plant a flower as there baby died last year before it was born Oliver was telling us all about it today and said ... I planted a flower for my baby Brother in heaven yesterday Nana... so i said that was nice and then he said i put my best car underneath in with the soil so he could have something to play with cos it was his birthday (it wasnt but he thought thats what they were planting flowers for ) I pasted a smile on my face but lord did i have a lump in my throat , but it just shows how little ones are so matter of fact about death ,he often talks about the baby and waves to the north star and shouts i love you baby ,i think his Mammy and Daddy handled it so well with him im proud of them :)
