The lodge itself is of a very high standard, the main living space is spacious, airy and light. It is open plan so includes dining area and well equipped kitchen.
There are patio windows that open out onto a timber decked area, ideal for settling down to watch the sunsets with a small glass of something!
Our lodge had two good sized bedrooms both with en suite bathrooms, one with a jacuzzi bath the other with a shower, bed linen and towels were also provided.
Each lodge also has its own parking space.
Marc and I are seasoned (40 plus years) self caterers and are experts on holiday cottages and the comforts we look for in a home from home holiday.
It is vital that the furniture is of a high quality and comfortable, a sofa that you can curl up on with a good book. When you are away you want to be able to have a good nights sleep, you are there to relax and de-stress, if you have attempted to sleep on a rock hard mattress, and believe me we have on numerous occasions, your holiday will be miserable.
This lodge, ticked all the right boxes. It was very comfortable and the beds were of a very high standard. No bad backs in the mornings!
I am going to hand over to Marc to explain the ownership part and how it works.
As Jane has already described, the Holiday Lodge was in a delightful spot and well appointed. Keep your elbows in when driving to the site, the lanes are narrow and typical of the best of the British countryside. The wildlife in the area is abundant and for the walkers a real goldmine of coastal and country paths to follow.
For those amongst us whose finances are limited but would like the option to use a Lodge from time to time, this makes sense. The system is based on buying points, each weeks holiday costs 300 points, to buy those points will cost £3995. As Jane mentioned earlier this is a fractional ownership of the lodges not just buying a weeks holiday.
This purchase makes you an Executive member and allows you to book one weeks holiday per year in anyone of the lodges listed on the website. Seven at present, but being added to steadily. When you book a holiday you pay a service charge of between £100 to £200, this covers the maintenance, cleaning, laundry, rates etc. The only other cost is an annual fee of £96, this fee is payable every year regardless of whether you use your holiday entitlement or not.
Should you wish extra weeks holiday, a fee of £7990 will give you Premium membership and 600 points this allows you the option of two weeks holiday a year plus the ability to book earlier and to take advantage of weeks which are empty of bookings. In addition Platinum membership is available. A visit to the website will explain this in more detail.
As explained before, this is a fractional ownership system so the more points you buy the more ownership you have. The aim will be to sell the lodges in twelve years time and to return up to 75% of your payment, there will also be the option of selling your share within six years but this is likely to give a lesser
return. You can also pass this on to your children should you wish to do so, the twelve year restriction would still apply.
This new business idea has been started up by Alex Joll (MD) who has had experience of the Holiday lodge business from his time on the continent. His aim is to give you many holiday options without all the hassle of buying and then maintaining a property. If you bear in mind it would cost anything up to £1400 in high season to rent a similar lodge for a week the charges seem small.
