A little bit about how Grannynet was born & how we hope it is growing up
I’m Verity and I thought of the idea behind Grannynet when I had my little girl in 2006. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you as grandmothers, that becoming a Mum turns your life upside down and I found it to be one of the most brilliant but scary
things I have ever done.
Suddenly my mum became the only person I would listen to, yet the only one I wouldn’t listen to, all at once. I was amazed that she managed to stay calm and strong for me without the distractions or support of her own network so I thought I would build her one, with her help as always. That is when Grannynet was born.
The first thing we decided to do was build the forum. Then we put together articles and a newsletter helping a grandmother to be the best granny she can.
Then the idea grew and so did the team, when Charlotte joined us in 2009. Since then we have added to and improved our original idea with the introduction of the Grannynet courses, product recommendations and a complete site redesign.
We have recently added some wonderful illustrations that we’ve had drawn especially for our site. The artist is Fanny Chan and she is currently chasing her dream at Fine Art School, majoring in painting. She has been experimenting with still life drawings, ink and wash paintings and comic illustrations since she was six. We think she’s very talented and her work for Grannynet always makes us smile. We have also recently chosen a charity for us to support – CLIC Sargent. As a children’s cancer charity we feel that it fits well with what lies at the heart of Grannynet – children, and these ones really need our help. Click here to visit our page about CLIC Sargent and find out what you can do to support them.
We work as a small team, but what really makes Grannynet work, is you. So, we hope you enjoy using Grannynet and it does for you what it was created to do… give you support, advice and smiles when you need them the most.
Below is a short video of Verity & Lorna introducing you to the site, don’t laugh – we’re video virgins!
Happy browsing,
Verity, Charlotte & (my children’s granny and my Mum) Lorna
